Exercises in madness

A slow start

Hey so I have this tumblr account.  Apparently.

Seriously though I have made a list of things I need to do to get my life back on track and one of them is to blog, everyday if I can manage it.

Problem is I typically don’t do anything.  It’s hard to blog, tweet, fb status when nothing is doing.

Maybe stuff is doing and I don’t realize it.  Maybe I need to get up and do more.  Shrug.

Anyway since I can’t think of anything to talk about lets go with whatever comes to mind.

So tumblr right, still don’t get tumblr as a platform.  Is it a blog, is it twitter deluxe, is it quick way of sharing stuff from social media.  Don’t know.  However I’m probably going to use it like a personal blog.  Maybe I’ll move on to blogger or something later but not now, gotta get the content there first.  Is it what most people use tumblr for?  No idea don’t spend enough time searching to find out.  Frankly don’t care.

Anyway lets see how this goes.

First kid on the bloc

My copy of The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson arrived and its fantastic.

Ok ok I haven’t started reading it yet.  I’ve been staring at the cover :P.

My thoughts on the book

I read a lot of High Fantasy, Eddings, Jordon, Feist, Martin and I’ve touched on Tolkien (this deserves a discussion at another time).  However all these guys became legends before my time.  Their books exploded in the early 80s and 90s when I was still working my way though the Point fantasy line.  For the last 20 years they really have dominated the bookshop shelves and I always got excited when the next volume arrived.  However reading through volumes 9 and 10 of the wheel of time got me thinking.  What would it be like to be there and pick up book one of the wheel of time just as it came out.  To struggle through years waiting on the next volume.

Circa 2010 and I find myself at the start of what I hope will be an epic series by a, comparatively, young high fantasy author who will hopefully be releasing best seller after best seller so in 10 years I can recommend it to someone who’s just finished reading teen-fantasy and is ready for the big books.

Somehow I missed the whole blogging thing.  So frankly I have no clue what I’m supposed to do with this thing.
